MILLER ELECTRIC WELDING AUTOMATION
Four hours per registrant isn’t always time well spent
Miller Electric Welding Automation provides a number of training programs to a variety of manufacturing end users and welding distributors. Each of its business units offer programs for specific welding equipment. Its Manufacturing Industries Group faced a particular challenge of registering and tracking customers from all over the U.S. for highly technical welding equipment and the corresponding training. Managing the phone calls and paperwork became a full-time job.
That job fell upon Customer Service Manager Kevin Summers, who estimated that he was spending up to four hours per registration, from the initial contact through the final collection of fees. MORE
BLESSED KATERI TEKAKWITHA CATHOLIC PARISH
Eliminating all-nighters with ABC Signup
Blessed Kateri is a vibrant parish north of Los Angeles that signs up thousands of children annually for religious education classes. Classes are in such high demand that, in years past, parents camped on the church’s sidewalks the night before signups opened. The process was also a strain on registrars; it required paid staff plus 14 volunteers. “It would take us over three months to input all of the registration information into our software data system,” said Bobby Vidal, the parish’s director of evangelization and lay formation. DRAKE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION EDUCATION
Secure with ABC Signup
Drake University Extension Education, which provides distance learning courses for educators across the country, had a homegrown online registration system in 2009 that was showing its age. Though “online,” the system required a lot of manual entry by Drake staff once registrations were received. Extension Education Director Chuck Sengstock sought a more secure process, one that provided more flexibility to expand course offerings, and also one that could easily work with Banner, the university-wide enrollment management system. WOODWARD![]()
Turning an HR nightmare into a dream experience
Woodward, a global company, builds fuel controls for aircraft engines. All 1,400 employees at its Rockford-area Illinois plants must attend annual classes on how to treat each other respectfully.
The pain of paper
Woodward did not use online registration the first year of the program. Instead, HR handled the process via a combination of paper, email and phone calls. Marsha Opperman, an HR administrative assistant, says the process was a real pain. What she hoped would be a relatively quick process took as long as two weeks of manual organization. Because the classes were held in the summer, Marsha had to work around substantial vacation absences, as well as medical leave and sick days. “There were people I had to re-schedule three or four times,” she said. Professional system pays dividends
The Diocese of New Jersey encompasses 155 congregations, 375 clergy and 50,000 members. It sponsors numerous events each year, from workshops and spiritual retreats to its annual convention. The number of participants ranges from a dozen to 800, with most events supporting 100 or fewer registrants.
Prior to ABC Signup, the Diocese tried to manage registrations for these programs through several departments with incongruent “manual” processes involving paper mailings, payments by check, phone calls, spreadsheets and so on. It was a haphazard system that was neither convenient nor effective, says Canon Kep Short, the Diocese’s Director of Youth Ministry. MORE
Smoother sailing with ABC Signup on board
Outrigger Enterprise Group, based in Hawaii, has satellite offices for its field sales staff across the United States.
One tactic the company uses to market its exotic hotel destinations – properties they own or manage throughout the Asia Pacific region – is hosting dinners for travel agents that double as training events. The sales offices used an e-mail/survey tool to manage the registration process for these events, but it lacked functionality and many of the agents invited did not like it. Upon the recommendation of another ABC Signup customer, Outrigger tried ABC’s online registration management system. MORE
